Course introduction

As humans, we live metaphoric lives. As a profound addition to any coach’s toolkit, the course: Dreamwork & Advanced Metaphors is one that will equip you to assist others to explore and expand their capacity to imagine their life metaphors. You will also develop a keen ear for the ongoing stories, internal messages and belief structures that people use to limit their lives and find ways to move past those limits. Metaphorically, this course will empower both yourself and your clients to build a strong boat for riding forward on the stream of consciousness.

Marilyn Atkinson is the creator of the acclaimed Solution-Focused Coaching model, The Art & Science of Coaching and Deep Coaching program.

As a clinical psychologist, Marilyn became a dedicated follower of Milton Erickson's work giving his name to Erickson Coaching International because she believed in the power of his solution-focused, metaphorical mindset as a powerful means of human transformation. She modelled Erickson's techniques and neuroscientific principles to create the programs that enable coaches to have a profound impact.

In the 40 + years that Erickson has been growing, she has traveled around the world providing training and coaching for the global community.

At age 81, Marilyn remains a formidable trainer, thought-leader, speaker and writer, inspiring the world with her relentless dedication to human transformation - one conversation at a time.

 

This course is for

  • Coaches want to strengthen their coaching skills.
  • Individuals who want to gain a deeper insight into their own life metaphors and how to reconstruct them to achieve greater success (coaching skills required).
  • Leaders, with coaching skills and training, who wish to strengthen their capacity to use metaphors and stories to lead their teams.

You will walk away with the ability to

  • Specific procedures to quickly understand the unconscious message system and meaning of any particular dream you may want to explore.
  • An ability to build your skill to actively create metaphors.
  • Techniques for changing inner vision and emotional thought as “forms of conscious- ness”.
  • The skill to apply these techniques to enhance creativity in daily life for yourself and those you coach or lead.

Program Curriculum

  • Part 1

You will develop enhanced ‘ears’ for listening to your clients’ assumptions choices and changes as they progress toward their larger dreams. and stories. You will utilize strong, responsive methodologies for integrating their visions and inner movies with

  • Part 2

You will learn to build your own powerful metaphors to speak to any audience. You will discover how to use vibrant metaphoric processes, as well as exciting Ericksonian techniques. You will learn how to metaphorically create a compelling vision and a story that inspires the best in people. Part 2 emphasizes examining and expanding the deeper meanings, emotional truths, behavioral choices and desired principles of action.

  • Part 3

You will discover how to work with dream metaphors, the stew of our deeper awareness. Using “dream tools,” you will be able to work with your own inner teacher. In doing so, you will acquire metaphor development skills to ‘alter the dream’ in profound and fundamentally useful ways.

  • Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course. The techniques can be used on oneself and also with others in a professional context, such as coaching or counseling so a background in such can be of benefit.
